This testing par-4 requires two blind shots. The first should clear the 40-foot high embankment that gives the hole its name. There was much debate in 1929 whether or not to keep the name – infamous in Canadian World War I history. 3500 of 10,000 Canadian soldiers died in the 1917 battle which was designed to punch through the German Lines in northwest France. In the end, it was agreed to keep the name Vimy Ridge as a tribute to the fallen – some of whom had been VGC members.
The blind tee shot on this par 4 should favour the left side of the hill for the most open approach to a large, relatively trouble-free green area. But beware - the green slopes deceptively from left to right and front to back. Low handicappers may want to play up the right side, leaving a daunting approach over rock and gorse but a better angle into the green.
