Hole 7 - Mount Baker
 Description:

VGC's signature hole begins the trip around 'The Point'. It was played as a par-three for decades before being lengthened in 1976 to a challenging par-4 with an oceanside hazard running the length of the hole on the left. The view from the old elevated tee affords a 'front-row seat on life' with vistas of three holes/greens, two bays, two volcanoes, innumerable mountains and islands, ships, planes, and wildlife (and late on a spring night – a ghost? – see anecdotes). Ben Hogan is said to have called the undulating green one of the most difficult he had encountered - after his putt rolled off the opposite fringe and down into the hazard (at that time: OB).

 Pro Tips:

When played as a par 4 (as it usually is), this hole requires a solid tee shot that avoids the ocean running the entire length of the hole on the left. A carry of 200 yards will catch the hill and roll on for another 50. The approach is usually from a side hill lie into a wickedly contoured green. Try to land the ball on the same level as the flag. This hole may also be played as 215-yard par 3 from an elevated tee offering a breathtaking oceanfront view.
